I haven’t quite figured out how I want this blog to work. Do I want to talk only about the trips we take? About the FFF that we all experience? Do I make it journal-y type deal? Maybe all of the above or only some of it? So until I figure out what type of feel this blog is going to have, I will just go with what I feel like I want to share. Post 2 is going, as the title suggest, about our trip to Costa Rica this past February. As our kids have gotten older, we have taken a page from my sister and her family and instead of giving our kids gifts for Christmas, we go on trips. We have only been doing it for the last 3 years, I am currently trying to figure trip number 4. Is it cheaper? Ummm…..maybe? Some of them probably have been. But they still talk about the trips. They don’t talk about the stuff.
Costa Rica was trip 3 and We. Had. A. Blast. So many new experiences. We were first in the Guanacaste region, Samara beach and Playa Carrillo. Went to both places. Did some ocean surfing, which was hard and frustrating and fun. The hardest part was the timing. Getting the timing of when to turn and recognizing when a wave is coming, so difficult. But so fun. My kids had the worst sunburns. We put SO much sunscreen on, many times, and they still got burned so bad. Swollen faces so bad they didn’t look like themselves. Pain and peeling skin. After 2 days at the beach we decided to do a covered boat tour and spend some time out of the sun because some of my kids were ready to come home they hurt so much. Let me tell you, did we get lucky! Not only did my sister-in-law find a company last minute, we saw so many dolphins! They swam by the boat, played, jumped. My husband took his GoPro, put it in the water and took some amazing photos of all the dolphins. We were waved at a by a whale, saw a GIANT Sail fish and a lone turtle just chillin’ in the water.
Then we drove through Costa Rica to the jungle in La Fortuna. I mean, we drove through it. Google was super considerate and took us the scenic route many times. We saw so much of the country and also missed so much of it. La Fortuna was amazing. There was a sign in the rental house that said don’t leave things out on the counters or outside because of the monkeys. Glimpsed a sloth, did see some monkeys. We did zip-lining and some of the kids did the Tarzan swing. That’s where they harnessed themselves onto a rope then jumped. Found some free hot springs where my kids realized that the fresh warm water and steam was really good for their faces and gently got all the peeling skin off. Floated a river, later took a wrong turn to see a waterfall so our 30 minute hike turned into a 2 hour hike. Huh. Talking about like this has been a lot of fun. Fed something in me I didn’t know needed fed.
